I am very passionate about movement, health, energy and creative expression so I love to teach a fun but challenging yoga class. My classes are suited for all levels and abilities, as together we work for what is best for your body by creating awareness. When I first began, I had been an elite and competitive athlete my entire life, so needless to say power was what ruled with the mentality that without pain there’s no gain, so obviously lost along that journey was the importance of balance, functional skills, breath, and alignment. Over the years as I gain knowledge, experience and continuous learnings from my teachers, I have come to love the art of the smallest movements, flowing in and out of poses with breath and a calm but joyous state of mind. Yoga brought passion back in my life, excitement and pure joy. It allowed me to be me, to sink into myself and really come to love healing myself mentally, physically and emotionally inside and out. I love to play and soon I began to allow myself to move freely on the mat, exploring my body, my breath and my imagination. I truly have such a passion to teach as I love to help others find their passion but achieve what brings them the greatest joy. If yoga is just part of that step for them, then I just love to be the one that can help either bring a smile or laughter to them, teaching in a way that enables them to enjoy and explore their bodies. Physical activity has been a constant in my life, from national level track & field and volleyball to kickboxing and Gung-Fu. In 2009 I explored my physicality in a new form, through yoga, and discovered my passion. As well as my love of yoga, I am a dedicated artist (with a BFA from TRU), an avid traveler and lifelong student of health and wellness. My journey began in my hometown of Kamloops, where I studied various styles of yoga, including: Moksha, Traditional Hot Yoga, Hatha, Yin and Vinyasa Flow.It was my time at a Vipassana 10 day silent meditation retreat, deep in the mountains of the interior of BC, where I focused on my spiritual path, cultivating awareness, discipline and love within my heart. I began teaching in 2012 drawing from all my experiences, big and small, weaving together styles and concepts creating a balanced and uplifting experience. Flowing movements, innovative sequencing and healing words are the foundation of my teaching. Using my wide range of training, I am able to motivate all ages and abilities in their yoga practice, insuring each student progresses in a safe and supported way. From young children first learning about body awareness and breath to adults challenging themselves in their practice, I gently lead them to discover more about themselves. Join me in classes filled with creativity and light! Kayla believes yoga to be a miraculous practice that has the power to make your life a better place to live. Kayla had an on again, off again love affair with yoga during her late teens and early twenties, however, after multiple car accidents, and chronic pain, it was ultimately yoga that provided her lasting relief and the means to heal both body and mind. Her classes are a thoughtful fusion of vinyasa flow, linking breath to movement, coupled with longer held poses. She incorporates her love for anatomy and physiology of the human body into her teaching, helping you to grow your practice from the ground up. I have always craved the adrenaline and intensity of a good workout. During my university days, my time at the gym would be a highlight of the day. One day, I decided to try something new and attended a hot yoga class. I instantly fell in love. My body felt incredible, my head and heart felt the same and I loved the intensity of working in the heat. I also learned that slowing down and embracing the yin side of life and yoga was something I needed more of for a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Not wanting to waste any time, I registered right away for a 200HR intensive training in Thailand. That was about 4 years ago and since then, I have taught yoga full time. It’s my career, it’s my passion. I love teaching yoga, I love studying yoga, and I love practicing yoga. Yoga is such a complex and rich practice that is constantly inspiring and challenging me. I look forward to seeing you in class! We will listen to funky beats, laugh, work hard, get sweaty and enjoy a slow, deep cool down. See you soon!!
