Femsport Bodybuilding Competitions Champion
Not willing to sacrifice my health using chemicals and with the next level of bodybuilding events not being drug tested, I decided to challenge myself with a competition requiring training in almost the opposite direction. Power-lifting! My job had changed and I now qualified to compete at the World Police and Fire Games in Australia of March 2007. I decided to compete in bench press and push/pull (which is a bench press and dead-lift combined) total weight. Again my training had to be adjusted using heavy weights and low reps to gain power, and my diet to focus on the nutrients required to allow my muscles to recover and get stronger. I received Silver medal with a clean 165lb bench press. Two days later, I again pushed a 165 lb bench press and a 295lb dead-lift to take the Gold!
Having done both extremes in bodybuilding and power-lifting, my journey brought me to a competition called Femsport held in Vancouver. This is a woman’s all strength and fitness challenge requiring a well balanced athlete. This all day event consists of bicep curls, 18 inch box jumps, kettle bell lifts, tire flip, tire pull and an obstacle course. Speed, strength, endurance, balance, and agility are the necessities to do well in this challenge and lacking in any one of these will have you scoring poorly on one or more events. I practiced the events and focused my training on the areas I needed to improve on. I trained hard for the next few months and attended my first competition August 2008 taking home the Title of Overall Champion. In March 2009, I again competed and was the first girl to ever win back to back Overall Champion Titles. I was asked if I would again defend my title, so 3 months out, I trained specifically for this challenge and won for a 3rd time in a row Aug 2009. March 2010, Femsport was held in Kamloops with 95 competitors, the biggest event yet. I was successful in achieving a new record setting 4th consecutive win. I love the camaraderie of this event and its promotion of overall health and fitness.
My newest event was the BCEEA strongest man and woman competition held here in Kamloops June 19th 2010 at Mcdonald Park, the full day event consisted of pulling a F150 truck 60 feet, flipping a 450lb tire, 70lb log press, and lifting rocks that weighed 80 to 175lbs… I switched my training to lift for low reps and heavy weight. This was my first strong woman event and I did win the 2010 BCEEA strongest woman overall.
I competed in Femsport again April 2, 2011 and now hold the honour of 5x Overall Champion. More importantly though, my 2 teammates that had trained with me for this event, took the next two placings! Team NO LIMITS took 1st and swept the top 3 individual placings! Great Job Carla Twan and Angela Busenius! In April 2012 my Team No Limits that I coached place first and top 3 individual placings here in Kamloops.
I competed for the second time in the BCEEA strongest man and woman competition held here in Kamloops August 19, 2011 at McDonald Park, the full day event consisted of a 40lb one arm kettle bell lift, 113lb farmers walk, truck pull, atlas stone lift, and deadlifts. This was my second strong woman event and I placed 3rd.

Before tearing?my left ankle?outer ligaments a 4th time in 1999, ending my ability to compete, I had achieved?Gold at the?BC Championships, followed by a Gold and Silver at the Canadian Championships in Greco-Roman and Freestyle respectively,?Bronze at the?Western North Americans, Gold at the BC Summer Games, and?Silver at the Canada?Games.?Although I would coach when work permitted, it was 16 Years later that?I would again put on wrestling boots and compete at the bi-annual World Police & Fire Games consisting of law enforcement and firefighters from around the world. Many having been ex-Olympians and national and international champions in their respective sports.?I competed in Freestyle?2005, 2007 & 2009 receiving a silver and 2 bronze. Although I no longer compete, I look forward to again coaching and?passing on my knowledge through No Limits Fitness.
Opening a facility that could cater to 95% of the population has been my dream for over a decade. My wife Maria began the process?by opening?her 400 square foot training studio “No Limits Fitness Training” in 2009 which quickly began to burst at the seams. Partnering up with Andrew and Lisa Watson who also share the passion of helping people was the second important step. Having spent almost 30 years inside various gyms and training facilities, I have experienced numerous styles and techniques to increase health and fitness as well as?improve overall athleticism and performance. I have now left law enforcement and?I welcome the opportunity to help our No Limits Fitness members achieve theirs individual health, fitness and athletic goals!

Movement has always been of the upmost importance to me, and my lifestyle. I grew up in a beautiful small town, called Roberts Creek on the Sunshine Coast where I was lucky enough to spend my childhood outside, year round. From fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hockey, swimming, and horseback riding, I have never been one to sit still.
Horses have always been a huge part of my life, and fundamentally shaped me into the adult I am today. Horses teach us how to be compassionate, patient, hardworking and oh so humble; much like the fitness industry. I started a structured training regime for the soul purpose of becoming a better, stronger, more balanced rider, and I absolutely fell in love with it in the process.
I fell in love with the feel of progress; making not only strength, but also mental gains. I found myself on a mission to share this feeling with as many people as I could. I remember the day it came to me, my mission was and still is so crystal clear in my mind. I will help everyone I can become the biggest, boldest, strongest, most fearless, secure version of themselves. I am a firm believer that this looks different for each and every person, therefore we need to find the root of your “want”. With this passion I decided to complete the ACE personal training certification (August 2016).
The fitness industry is constantly changing and growing, and I find it paramount to keep up with the newest discoveries, and scientific research to help others succeed to the very best of their abilities but constantly continuing my own growth and education.
